Sailors Haven & the Sunken Forest — the crown jewel of Fire Island Sailors Haven is one of the most scenic and unspoiled barrier island beaches in the world and home to the globally rare Sunken Forest, an ancient maritime forest with a boardwalk nature trail. Pristine beaches, high dunes, and a relaxed National Park atmosphere make it an ideal place to escape and enjoy a day by the ocean. For boaters and day visitors, the Fire Island Water Taxi stops at Sailors Haven and provides service to all western Fire Island destinations, including Cherry Grove, The Pines, Point of Woods, Ocean Bay Park, Seaview, Ocean Beach, Atlantique, Kismet, and the Fire Island Lighthouse. Cherry Grove is approximately a one-mile walk along the boardwalk, while Ocean Bay Park is accessible on foot or by bike along the beach. Visitor Services & Amenities Sailors Haven offers a general store, café, and outdoor bar, along with a National Park Service Interpretive Ranger Station featuring hands-on exhibits and guided nature walks through the Sunken Forest. Complimentary internet connectivity is available beginning in 2025. Live music is featured most peak summer weekends.
